A Journey of Practice, Purpose, and Seva
For many people, the call to become a yoga teacher begins as a quiet whisper – a longing for deeper understanding, a desire to live with more awareness, or a wish to serve others. At Yogam Yoga, we honour that calling with a training that is spacious, soulful, and rooted in the true heart of yoga.
Unlike short, intensive 200‑hour courses that compress everything into a few weeks, the Yogam Yoga 1‑Year Teacher Training in Glenwood, Durban (February–November 2027) unfolds slowly, intentionally, and in community. It is a journey of transformation – not only into a teacher, but into a more grounded, compassionate, and conscious human being.
Why a 1‑Year Training?
Yoga is not something that can be rushed. It is lived, breathed, practiced, questioned, and integrated over time. Our year‑long programme allows students to:
- Build a steady, embodied personal practice
- Deepen their understanding of yogic philosophy, anatomy, and teaching methodology
- Grow confidence through mentorship and real teaching experience
- Develop the inner qualities of a teacher – humility, clarity, presence, and compassion
This is not simply a course. It is a sadhana, a path of inner work and outer service.
It is ideal for anyone wanting to explore authentic yoga, mindful teaching, or long‑term practice.
A Charity at Heart
Yogam Yoga is a non‑profit organisation dedicated to uplifting communities through yoga, mindfulness, literacy support, feeding programmes, and youth development. When you join our teacher training, you become part of this mission.
The course itself is free.
Students contribute only R1300 for course materials for the entire year.
This makes the programme accessible to people who feel called to serve – not just those who can afford expensive training.
Seva: Teaching as Service
One of the most meaningful aspects of the Yogam Yoga path is seva – selfless service.
Once trained, our teachers go on to:
- Teach free or low‑cost community classes
- Support children’s yoga and literacy programmes
- Assist in outreach projects
- Bring yoga into schools, shelters, and community spaces
Becoming a Yogam Yoga teacher means joining a family of people who teach not for profit, but for purpose. If you feel drawn to seva, this training is a natural home.
Over 10 months, you will explore:
- Traditional Hatha Yoga
- Raja Yoga and Patanjali’s teachings
- Anatomy and safe alignment
- Teaching methodology and sequencing
- Voice, presence, and the art of holding space
- Meditation, pranayama, and mindfulness
- The Yogam Yoga community teaching model
You will also receive mentorship from Duncan Rice and the Yogam Yoga teaching team, who guide you with warmth, clarity, and decades of experience.
If you want to dive deeper into any of these themes, explore:
- Hatha Yoga
- Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras
- Yoga anatomy basics
Limited Places – Fully Booked Every Year
