Many of you have shared your dream with me – of Yogam Yoga in Durban one day having its own building. That dream is alive in all of us, and we will manifest it. But even now, we are already home.
Yogam Yoga has always been a mobile ashram – a sanctuary that travels with the breath, the intention, and the seva of our community. Whether it’s in Ballito with Siane and Candice, Durban North with Jackie and Merishka, Chatsworth with Allan and Logan, Umhlanga with Shweta, or through the many beautiful souls teaching in Musgrave and Glenwood – we are creating sacred spaces of healing and connection across Durban.
🕉️ What is an Āśrama? The Sanskrit word āśrama carries deep meaning: • śram = to exert, strive, make effort • ā = towards → Āśrama is a place or state where one strives toward a higher goal—spiritual, yogic, or simply human.
So an ashram is not just a building. It’s a way of living. A rhythm of service, breath, and transformation.
🏞️ We have no fixed base, yet we are deeply rooted. Yogam Yoga doesn’t reside in walls—it resides in every act of seva, every shared breath, every circle of healing. We are a mobile mandir of compassion, showing up wherever the need is greatest.
🤝 Community is our sacred ground. Our ‘ashram’ is wherever hearts gather—in a school hall, a park, a township, or even our WhatsApp group. It’s not the location that sanctifies the space, but the intention: to serve, uplift, and awaken.
🏗️ Seva is our architecture. Instead of bricks and mortar, Yogam Yoga is built on selfless service. Food drives, free tuition, inclusive yoga classes—these are our pillars. Every volunteer, every child taught, every elder supported becomes part of our living structure.
📿 Lineage without limitation. Rooted in ancient yogic wisdom and the Gurukul tradition, we honour the teachings while adapting them to modern life. We carry the light forward—without borders, without barriers.
💞 A sanctuary of shared purpose. Whether you’re a teacher, student, donor, or passerby—you’re not just visiting Yogam Yoga. You are Yogam Yoga. Our ashram lives in your actions, your awareness, your willingness to grow and give.
Let’s keep walking together. Let’s keep building—heart by heart, breath by breath.
🧘🏽♂️🧘🏽♀️ Yogam Yoga: Where the ashram lives in you.
