This winter has revealed both the fragility of human circumstance and the extraordinary strength of human kindness. Over the past weeks, the Yogam Yoga Seva Network has been reaching out to a deeply vulnerable group of documented refugees and asylum seekers who were expelled from their temporary accommodation and left to survive in makeshift tents outside Home Affairs on Che Guevara Road.
These families – many with very young children – have now been living outside for three weeks. They were moved by the Municipality, yet Home Affairs has still not processed them. With no clarity, no support, and almost no resources, they remain exposed to cold, rain, and trauma that no child should ever have to endure.
And yet, in the midst of this suffering, our Yogam Yoga community has shown a level of heart that humbles us all.
Clothes. Blankets. Food. Baby supplies. And, most importantly, the baby formula that was desperately needed – made possible by a generous financial donations from one of our members. Every item delivered restored a small piece of dignity, comfort, and hope.
The gratitude from the families was profound. Your kindness has made a real difference.
Seva: The Heart of Yogam Yoga
In Yogam Yoga, seva is not charity – it is a sacred practice. It is the recognition that we are all interconnected, and that service offered with humility becomes a form of yoga in itself.
Seva asks us to see humanity before difference. It asks us to respond to suffering not with judgement, but with presence. It asks us to act from the heart, without expectation.
What our community has done over these past weeks is the living expression of this philosophy. You have shown that yoga is not only what happens on the mat—it is what happens in the world when we choose compassion over comfort, and solidarity over silence.
Your actions have reminded us that humanity is our shared home, and that caring for one another is the highest form of practice.
An Ongoing Winter Project
The situation on Che Guevara Road remains desperate. This is not a once‑off act of kindness – this is the beginning of an ongoing Yogam Yoga Seva Network project to help these families survive the winter.
We will continue to collect and deliver:
- Food
- Baby supplies
- Blankets and warm clothing
- Basic hygiene items
- Any form of support that restores dignity and comfort
Every offering matters. Every gesture helps.
Honouring Our Seva Leaders
A special thank you goes to Milly and Patsy from our Chatsworth branch, whose tireless seva has been nothing short of extraordinary. Your courage, consistency, and compassion are lighting the way for all of us. You are living examples of what Yogam Yoga stands for.
Thank you!
If you are able, please drive down Che Guevara Road and see the situation for yourself. It is heartbreaking, but it is also a powerful reminder of why seva matters—and why your kindness is so urgently needed.
To our Yogam Yoga family: Thank you, thank you, thank you. Your warm hearts are changing lives. Your humanity is a blessing. Your seva is a light in a very dark moment.
