There are moments in community work when the impact is so tangible, so joyfully overwhelming, that it feels as though something greater is moving through everyone involved. Our recent Shoebox Appeal at Highlands Primary was one of those moments.

What began as a simple intention — to support children from underprivileged backgrounds with essential school supplies — blossomed into a morning filled with smiles, gratitude, and a sense of shared humanity. Thanks to the dedication of our Yogam Yoga seva family, 468 full stationery packs were lovingly prepared and distributed to learners at Highlands Primary at the start of their new school term.

These packs were more than just stationery. They were confidence, dignity, and hope wrapped into a box. For many children, receiving these supplies meant stepping into the school year feeling seen, supported, and ready to learn.

A Community Effort Rooted in Love and Service

This initiative was made possible through the generosity of our volunteers — those who donated funds, those who assembled the packs, and those who showed up in person to hand them out. Every pair of hands, every hour given, every act of kindness contributed to a ripple of upliftment that will be felt long after the first day of school.

In total, the value of the stationery donated reached nearly R150,000, a testament to what becomes possible when hearts unite in service.

A special expression of gratitude goes to Gita, whose inspired idea and sponsorship support opened the door for this miracle to unfold. Her leadership helped transform a vision of 400 boxes into an abundant 468 — enough to bless every child at Highlands Primary.

Voices of Gratitude from Highlands Primary

The morning was filled with emotion, and the heartfelt messages from the school leadership say it all.

From the Chair of the Highlands Primary Governing Body:

“Wow, what a morning, Yogam Yoga. You guys are AMAZING. This morning was full of smiles and excitement for our kids. Thanks to each and every one of you who went the extra mile to make these kids happy — we truly appreciate it. Once again, thank you on behalf of HIGHLANDS PRIMARY.”

From the Principal of Highlands Primary:

“I have to echo Sharmina. It was such a pleasure having the Yogam Yoga team at school. Your positive energy really brightened the first day of school for all our learners. I can see a very beautiful future between the Yogam Yoga team and Highlands.”

A Message From Duncan Rice from Yogam Yoga

“Today felt like a miracle in motion. There was clearly a Divine hand guiding every step of this seva. Our aim was 400 boxes… and through grace, love, and the power of collective being, we put together 468 full packs. Because of this, every child at Highlands Primary will receive a pack — and we even have enough to bless another school in need. To everyone who donated, created beautiful packs, and showed up to help — your hearts made this possible. May this seva continue to ripple outwards. May we always remember that when we come together in service, the Divine moves through us.”

Continuing the Journey of Service

The Shoebox Appeal was more than an outreach project — it was a reminder of what community truly means. When we show up with kindness, mindfulness, and unity, we create spaces where children feel valued and supported, and where hope becomes something they can hold in their hands.

To every volunteer, donor, and supporter: thank you. Your compassion has made a lasting difference.

May this spirit of seva continue to guide us as we uplift, empower, and serve — one child, one family, one community at a time.
